Jordyn Rae Owens is an artist born and raised in Reno, Nevada. Similar to her daily meditations, her art practice is a contemplative process, one that brings awareness to her thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Jordyn utilizes photographic mediums to explore the past, present, and future self, often incorporating materials found in the archive of her life. Some memorabilia presented throughout her work include journal entries, old family portraits, letters, and cherished items from her childhood. By exploring her inner world, Jordyn’s creations reveal the evolution of identity and the powerful effects of introspection.
Jordyn believes that through vulnerability, new pathways of connection can be created. By sharing some of her most intimate moments with her viewers, she invites them to do the same. Embracing vulnerability not only opens us up to others, but also helps us access all the parts that make us who we are. In doing so, we learn to hold space for each other — and for ourselves.

Your Skin is a Kaleidoscope invites local Black, Indigenous, and Artists of Color to reflect on the breadth of their stories and experiences, whether lived or ancestral, beautiful or painful, and respond to the idea with a piece of art that communicates insights and perspectives that arise from this introspection.
“Our skin carries the scars and bruises of our past. But, our skin is abundant. It has the power to regenerate and repair old wounds. People often mistake our skin for being monotone, different shades of one color. But, if you pay enough attention, you'll see how the light dances and refracts off our skin, like radiant blessings from our ancestors. And if you look closely, for every red, violet, blue, green, or yellow hue, there is a breadth of stories, histories, and lessons transmuted from the past to help us create brighter tomorrows.”
